Pavane and Education
In the past we have run Tudor Music Workshops for schools at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, and we will continue with this important aspect of our work, our commitment to bringing to life the music, the instruments, the songs and the dances of the Tudor period, and giving Year 4 and 5 school students first hand contact with this rich cultural experience.
Tudor Music Workshops in Schools
We are also available to bring our Tudor Music Workshops to schools, and would be willing to adapt our activities to suit a school’s particular requirements.
Educational Workshops
Our Workshops support and develop the work done on the Tudor period at Key Stage 2, and give an exciting and dynamic first-hand experience of the cultural life of this historical period.
The precise content of our Workshops will vary according to individual circumstances or requirements, but our basic programme is as follows:
Tudor Music and Instruments
We play a couple of short Tudor tunes featuring a range of different instruments, eg recorders, crumhorns, and discuss the instruments with the students. We also demonstrate and discuss other early instruments, eg virginals, shawm, rauschpfeif, gemshorn... Where appropriate, we give “hands-on” experience to the students.
Tudor Dances
We demonstrate and teach the steps of one or two Tudor dances (eg the pavane, the brawl) and then the students perform the dance(s).
Tudor Songs
We demonstrate one or two Tudor songs, and teach one or two songs to the students.
At every stage we involve the students actively.
We use authentic instruments, and we dress in authentic costume.
